I've been re- reading the Hearts of Darkness by Joseph Conrad. This book used to be nothing more than just a required reading in grade 12, but my mind was still intrigued by the ideas presented in the novel even after the term paper was handed in. As one critic of the time put it, the story had become 'a Pilgrim's Progress for our pessimistic and psychologizing age' and I can't agree more based on my experience.

"Droll thing life is- that mysterious arrangement of merciless logic for a futile purpose. The most you can hope from it is some knowledge of yourself." These words hit me hard.
